  • Oswalt carries Houston past St. Louis 5-1

(CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas) – Albert who? How ‘bout ROY-O!

Houston starter Roy Oswalt put forth a masterful effort Wednesday night in St. Louis, dominating one of the most potent lineups in the game by allowing just a run on three hits over seven innings to lead the Astros to a 5-1 win in the sixth and deciding game of the National League Championship Series. For the first time in their 44-year history, the Astros will represent the National League in the World Series, which begins this Saturday in Chicago against the White Sox.

Offensively, the Astros got clutch RBI hits from Craig Biggio and Morgan Ensberg, a solo home run off the bat of Jason Lane, and a suicide squeeze bunt by Adam Everett. Houston’s lineup tallied 11 hits, with catcher Brad Ausmus providing three singles to lead the way.

The Hooks, along with ClearChannel Radio and the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, hosted an Astros World Series Watch Party at Whataburger Field Wednesday night, and a crowd estimated at between 1,500 and 2,000 went nuts when Dan Wheeler got Yadier Molina to fly out to end the game. An announcement about the possibility of future World Series Watch Parties at Whataburger Field will be forthcoming on the Hooks’ website, www.cchooks.com, at noon on Thursday, October 20th.

The first two games of the Fall Classic will be played in Chicago, with games three, four, and if necessary game five taking place at Minute Maid Park in Houston next Tuesday through Thursday, October 25-27.

  • ONCE AGAIN, K-99's TEXAS SPOTLIGHT SHINED ON US  Thanks to Heidi Wilson and the folks with K-99 for making us the Texas Spotlight Artist on Friday night, October 3rd.   Thanks to everyone who listened in when they featured Used Heart For Sale.  Gracias Clear Channel!  Call Heidi at 361.560.KRYS to say thanks and request the heck out of our song!  If you call in the mornings and get Big Frank on the phone, tell him Frisco sent you!  Thanks!

  • Andy Griggs Concert   Great crowd at the Andy Griggs Concert on Saturday.  We were very happy to see the J.R. Castillo & Unwound fans out in huge numbers.  Thanks to everyone who wore their J.R. & Unwound gear and to everyone who has emailed us about the concert.  We are all big Andy Griggs fans, but we can't help but feel proud that after our set was done (cut short, actually) the majority of the crowd left.  We know it wasn't the weather and there was plenty of beer to be sold, so all we can deduce is that you guys were there for us.  For that, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!  God Bless You for it!  Keep on coming out in big numbers and we'll deliver the best show possible.  We're on to something here- something big!  Just keep us in your hearts and in your prayers and together we can make a little history.  Gracias!

  • BarStar.Com  Well it looks like they've got the kinks out of their system and they've asked us to be a part of the BarStar family once again.  Log on to their website and give us a vote in their Hot 100 Bands contest.  In our last go 'round with BarStar, we opted out as a result of some questionable antics by other bands.  We hope this time around, barstar and it's members will help promote the live music scene, rather than create unnecessary rivalries.  Thanks for all your support!!!

  • THE BIRD'S THE WORD  Freebird's World Burrito has partnered with Lyon Advertising of Austin, Texas to launch it's new ad campaign for the College Station-based burrito factory  franchise and have tapped J.R. to help write the jingles for their campaign.  What could have been an easy six figure deal for J.R., turned into a "Kramer on Seinfeld kind-of-deal" when J.R. jumped at their first offer to be paid in a lifetime of free monster burritos!  Little did he know they were just joking.  Oh well, at least he won't go hungry.
